Some information

I remember when watching the movie The Notebook they young man falls in love with the woman of his dreams at first site. He works for a circus on the promise that each week he will be "paid" with information about the young woman. Each week he clings on to the one new thing he learned so that he can use the knowledge to woo her.

So yesterday I received my first e-mail from Isaac's current family. I had e-mailed them to introduce our family and to ask questions about what he like to do and what he is interested in. I also wanted to find out what kind of personal items he would be bringing with him so that I can plan accordingly. Here is what I found out:
1. He like Thomas the Train (Emerson was thrilled to find this out)
2. He likes to play with cars and trucks
3. He enjoys planning outside at the playground
4. He has only been swimming 3 times and did not really like it (Sorry bud, we are going to have to work on this one)
5. He loves to eat, but he has lots of digestion issues so we have to be careful with what he eats.
6. He loves to have rice with every meal.
7. His current family is going to send three boxes of clothes with him and some of his big favorite toys.
8. He will get to bring his bedding with him, which we are very happy about. This is a huge comfort item for displaced kids.

Now that I know what he is bringing with him, I am going to start working on the list of things we need to get, just to get by. Once he gets here I will figure out the rest, all in good time.

One of my traditional habits that I have tried to break in recent years is my tendancy to count down. Well, I am like a smoker back on the band wagon. For those who love a good count down, here is how it breaks down:
6 days until we leave to meet Issac
8 days until our social worker comes back from vacation so she can send out homestudy out
9 Days until we get to meet Isaac
14 days until we should have custody of him
17 days until we should be home as a family of 4:)

This is of course depended upon the paperwork and Fedex fairies and the DHR in two states. Have fun watching what buracracy can do to such a pretty time line. But hey, what would an adoption be without some unessisary drama.

  1. I am so thrilled for you!! It really is amazing how perfectly the timing is in adoption...but for me the waiting & faith is SO hard! I KNOW it will happen but oh to see the big picture so I know WHY it takes so long. :) btw-HUGE countdown person here. ;) Foster care has been KILLING me because we don't have at least some kind of timeline on adopting.

  2. Count away and enjoy it! It provides a nice perspective. I can't believe how fast this is all happening. The story of your lives crossing Isaac's must be an amazing one. He is a beautiful boy. Your lives (all four of you!) are about to become all that much richer. Can't wait to hear more.

  6. John, Karon and Emerson - We are so thrilled and excited and can't wait for you to meet this darling boy. This is truly a match made in heaven and we can see that he is the perfect one for your family. We already love his cute little face as we do Emerson. What a blessing this little guy will be! We know E will have some adjusting to do but he is a trooper and will be a good big brother. They will be best friends and brothers and your life is going to get even busier and more challenging. We KNOW you are ready for it. We are plotting to figure out when we can come to visit and meet our new grandson. Maybe late September or early Oct?? Know that you are in our prayers and we send our love! We're all for you an so happy!!

  7. Kind of a dumb question: Are you traveling to Kazakhstan to meet Isaac? Because didn't you mention he's from China? How is this so?
