I Speak for the Trees

Driving past this scene yesterday on the way to Isaac's birthday dinner,
Emerson exclaims "Mama, I am sad."
"Why?" I ask.
"Because the tornado hurt all the trees, and I feel like the Lorax who must speak for the trees, for the trees have not tongs."
Then Isaac shouts, "Mama, mama, look that tree is still standing.  That is good."

What a proud Earth Muffin Mama I was at that point, both because they could feel sad for the trees and because they could recognize the beauty in what was spared.

On a different note, Isaac was so excited for his birthday yesterday.  The boys got $6 in a red envelope (Chinese New Year tradition) and then we took them to the arcade.  They firmly believe that you are only allowed to go to the arcade on your birthday, and if anyone out there tells them different bad, bad things will happen to you.  Then we went to 5 Guys, because Isaac was 5.  Next year we will have to find something with the theme of 6.
