Proud Mama Moments

John and I are pretty simple people. We are not into fancy things, the latest styles, and dread buying things, anything. We recongnize how blessed we are to have gifts like clean water, enough heat, space to grow food and for our boys to run, and family and friends that love us unconditionaly. With our boys getting older we are becoming concious of needing to communicate these ideals to the boys. We have made choices that limit us finacialy but give us the gift of quality time together as a family.

When we discussed on Sunday morning our purposes on this planet, Isaac unequivicable answer was "to make sure that everyone has enough food." and Emerson said he was good at "making people feel loved by giving hugs." Fast forward to the afternoon. The boys are ridding their big wheels down the driveway and they asked John to close the gate to keep them safe. As John goes down there he sees our elderly, almost blind, neighbor is on a walk. John and the boys decide to walk with him down the street. When they got home Isaac tells me that Gray's wife is sick and he is hungry and that no one should be hungery. Emerson tells me that he is sad and that he gave Gray a big hug to let him know he was loved.

Then Isaac and I made a huge pot of turkey soup with all sorts of yummy vegies from the garden and corn bread muffins. Then Isaac walked to Gray's house to take dinner to them.

During this time of fast paced, standards based learning objectives, I found their sucssess to be so true, so ginuine. This is what I want my boys to be. Good citizens who see a problem and recognize that they as 4 and 5 year olds have a gift to share that can and does make a difference in this world.
