John and I have always in our adult life, cared about different things than most around us. We are OK with that. We accepted a long time ago that we did not fit in with the mainstream and we also decided a log time ago that we didn't really care what others thought of us for being different.
But, we have children who don't quite know how differernt we live compaired to their peers, and they are starting to figure it out. Something needed to be done. We needed a way to teach them why we live like we do and why we feel it is important.
So, I have picked up a book titled: Living Simply with Children. One of the things I love about the book is that it has us doing family meetings. We are having these after Sunday morning breakfast and it is a time to talk about any issues that have come up, the week ahead and what our values are as a family.
Today we decided on the values that we all felt were imortant to refer to when we make a decision. Here is what we are starting with:
*To show and let our friends and family know they are loved.
*Everyone should have enough healthy food to eat.
*We have a beautiful planet and we want to take care of it.
*We value knowledge, exploration and learning opportuntites.
*Words and hands are powerful tools that we will use to make the world a better place.
*We respect and care for what we have.
*We value our time as a family as we work and play together.
It will be fun to see where we go with all of this.
